Our Story
Tani began not as a business plan, but as a dream—born in the mind of a 15-year-old kid with a sketchbook full of ideas and a heart split between two cultures. Growing up both Japanese and American, our founder was always searching for a way to express the beauty and complexity of his identity. Fashion became that outlet—a way to bridge the elegance of traditional Japanese design with the edge and accessibility of modern American style.
But it was never just about clothes. From day one, the goal was deeper: to create garments that tell a story, that carry meaning, and that make the person wearing them feel connected to something more. Every piece had to reflect purpose, culture, and craft—not just be something you throw on.
The name Tani is a tribute to that deeper meaning. It comes from the founder’s family name, Tanizaki, and was chosen as a way to honor his grandparents and their legacy. The brand stands as a quiet promise—to make them proud by creating something lasting, intentional, and rooted in respect.
What started with small drops and in-person sales has grown into a globally recognized brand, but our core hasn’t changed. We still believe in slow fashion, in quality over quantity, and in making timeless designs that don't chase trends. We’re committed to creating pieces that are affordable, yet crafted with care, using techniques and materials that honor our Japanese roots and modern sensibilities.
Tani is more than a brand. It’s a personal journey. A cultural blend. And a reminder that what we wear should say something—not just about our style, but about our story.
